By Anthony Golplin – Traineeship student
‘I started my Traineeship programme at Progressions, Leeds in September 2019. First I met Jim, who was helpful, and he explained all the opportunities available to me at Progressions. For the first few weeks, I worked with Nick and this gave me lots of confidence. I was in college for one day a week and the other four days I worked in Nosh Restaurant. They were incredibly welcoming and made me feel part of the team. In the beginning, I had a signer to help me, but as I got better I didn’t need one. Most Fridays, I went into college to print off a recipe to make in Nosh.
Being in a real working environment gave me a huge boost; I proved to myself I could get my own job. Annmarie organised a recruitment day for McDonald’s in college and my Tutor (Noel) chose me and some other learners to attend. We had to fill in documents and answer questions about our ability to work. Out of the people who attended, only five people were chosen to attend a trial day at McDonald’s. My work trial was in McDonald’s in Horsforth. My work placement at Nosh and my experience there really helped, even though I was still a little nervous. The manager in Horsforth liked me and I was offered a job. I was so happy and never believed I would get a job. Progressions have been such a huge help to me and given me so much confidence.’
