What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is a great work based training programme giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for with the aim of them progressing onto an apprenticeship or into employment.

Our traineeships last up to 17 weeks and include the following key elements:

  • Work preparation and employability skills training
  • English and Maths support if needed
  • A high-quality work experience placement with a suitable employer.

What can you expect?

First of all, get in touch – we will talk you through how a traineeship works, check your suitability and explain how a traineeship can be your next step towards getting an apprenticeship or job. Still interested? We will arrange for you to come into your local centre to discuss the available employer work placement vacancies.

Once we have agreed potential placement employers, interviews will be arranged and if successful a date will be set for you to start your work placement.

You will also attend your local training centre one day a week where you can work on developing your Maths, English and employability skills to further support you in being able to progress successfully to your next career step.

Towards the end of the traineeship, an increased emphasis is placed on applying for real jobs and available apprenticeships. Many of our traineeship students are often successful in gaining jobs and apprenticeships before, or at the end of the course, and several students have ended up staying and being employed by the employer where they did their traineeship placement.
