Skills for Life - South London Press newspaper article

LifeSkills in Peckham has launched a project, based in Sternhall Lane, offering 16 to 18 year olds training in bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, plumbing and painting.

Taking place four days a week for up to nine months, the course aims to provide students with industry skills as well as support to improve their English, Maths and ICT.

The project is funded by the Education Funding Agency.

Ewan Metcalf, Business Development Manager at LifeSkills said “I wouldn’t work for anyone else. LifeSkills have young people at the forefront of everything they do.”

Clinton Taylor is the Centre Manager at LifeSkills and works with the students. He said: “We had one boy who got mixed up with the wrong crowd. Now, he is training for his Level 2. He is the first in and last to leave.
“This place is a haven, looking to change young people’s motivation and way of viewing life. we have a lot of students say they learn more here than they ever did at school.”

At the end of their training, young people are offered links to jobs, apprenticeships and further education.
