LifeSkills press release for the new Sheffield centre

LifeSkills – it’s the business

There’s a bright future for Sheffield’s youngsters as LifeSkills opens its first training centre in the city on the 2nd of August.

Recognised as one of the UK’s leading training providers, LifeSkills have accolades coming out of their proverbial ears – from receiving ‘extraordinary’ status at the Best Companies Awards to being certified as ‘outstanding’ in recent Oftsted reports. They also have a proven track record in South Yorkshire, Managing Director Spencer Fearn’s home county. LifeSkills’ Rotherham centre opened in October 2010, and almost 150 local youngsters have since learnt the skills to help them into work.

The first courses to run at the Sheffield centre will be Apprenticeships in Business Administration and Retail. These give young people skills and qualifications in IT, customer relations & teamwork, and prepare them for a wide range of jobs. Crucially, it also gives them valuable experience in the workplace and the confidence that brings.

Apprenticeships can benefit youngsters, the area and businesses, and it’s working closely with local companies that’s the key to LifeSkills’ success. Local employers offer real life experience to keen, dedicated youngsters. In return, LifeSkills provides the necessary training, continued support and a unique programme that gives employers the opportunity of a work trial with potential apprentices before taking anyone on.

“I was never too good at school work but this course showed me something I am good at. As well as finding out what I want to do, they've shown me how I can improve my chances with a proper CV and gave me an idea of what goes on in an interview.”
