Traineeships

Traineeship programmes are designed to bridge the gap for young people in their journey towards an Apprenticeship and employment.

A Traineeship is a programme that combines education and training with work experience, and is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

Traineeships are very flexible, and LifeSkills/Progressions UK work closely with you the employer to deliver programmes which suit both the needs of your business and those of the learner.

Our Traineeships last from 6 up to 17 weeks and include the following key elements:

  • work preparation training provided by LifeSkills/Progressions UK
  • English and maths support as required, provided by LifeSkills/Progressions UK
  • a high-quality work experience placement with a suitable employer

How does it work?

Young people will be invited to an Assessment day and will be interviewed and assessed for their suitability for the programme.

Suitable applicants will then be matched with employer placement vacancies for the learner to have an interview with a potential employer to ensure their suitability for the role.

Maths, English and work preparation sessions will be completed on a Monday each week (At a LifeSkills/Progressions UK Training Centre).

*If a learner is placed with an employer that operates 7 days per week, they can work one weekend day, and take a day off in the week instead.

While on the Traineeships learners will receive a weekly attendance allowance for the duration of the Traineeship programme and will be reimbursed for travel costs (bus/train fares).

At the end of their Traineeship, each young person will be guaranteed a job interview, if a role becomes available, with the work experience placement employer.

If the employer is unable to offer the Learner a position in the company, the Learner will have an exit interview to complete their Traineeship programme and will receive a reference from the company that provided the work experience placement to support their future job search, and or be re-assessed and given support to apply for an Apprenticeship.
